Our Mission

The English Panel of NAMS strives to maximize the English language learning experience for all students through a variety of methods.

School based materials have been developed specifically with the student’s needs and interests in mind. Writing packages incorporating aspects of the new senior secondary syllabus are constantly being developed and refined.

Multimedia presentations give students an authentic learning experience as well as increasing their interest in the topic presented. Much guidance is given when students are required to write an essay with reading materials and essay frameworks provided. This not only increases student’s knowledge of the topic, but also guides them to produce better essays.

Reading materials, based on current issues are offered at several levels and will be available for all levels by next academic year. These units lay a foundation for topics covered in the new senior secondary curriculum. A class library scheme has been initiated, with both fiction and non-fiction books available. Each student must read at least one book a week and a record is kept. Students particularly enjoy the non-fiction titles.

Every teacher is responsible for class enhancement of the more capable students and specific materials are designed to challenge even the most capable students. Consolidation classes are available for students who need extra support with their English language acquisition.

The English Ambassador Programme has recently been launched. Elite students from both junior and senior forms have been chosen to be ambassadors. Their major brief is to promote the use of English on campus. We aim to achieve this through English speaking days, performances in assembly, radio plays, TSA oral practice and introducing the junior level students to the English Corner.

Foreign language students from the CUHK and HKU will be visiting on a regular basis on Saturdays. The first meeting with the students occurred at the Mid Autumn Festival celebrations, and was very successful. Our students welcomed the opportunity to speak to the foreign students in English.

By exposing our students to a diverse array of English resources we hope they can gain genuine and meaningful experiences using the English language.
